Citizen engagement brings together diverse people, including local government elected officials & staff, residents, and businesses to create innovative ideas and solutions. We want to make decisions rooted in community-based participation, but we can only do that if you speak up! Let’s work together to make sure that we’re planning for our community’s needs now and into the future.

Why do I have to register?

Constructive dialogue and rigorous decision-making require accountability. The purpose of the Village’s engagement efforts is to collect useful feedback from real people to support Village priorities and discussions, and to keep you informed and engaged on projects that are important to you. Registration allows us to be sure that real people are behind the comments and ideas on the site.

What about my privacy?

Your privacy is important to us and is protected. Your contact details will be kept confidential and will only be used to update you about the project(s) you are interested in.

What is public engagement?

Public engagement is anything we do to involve citizens and other stakeholders in Village initiatives and work. It is a way to let you know what we’re working on, gather your input, and get more people involved. It is important for everyone to get involved so that we can hear from all voices in the village whether you are a resident or business owner, a retiree, a volunteer or seasonal worker, or maybe you’re a busy professional commuting outside of the community.

Is it really worth my time?

We know your time is valuable so we’ve tried to make this as easy as possible and we appreciate your time and input. We know you have ideas and opinions, and we are committed to learning from them and incorporating them into our planning and decision-making. The more people who are informed, considering options, pondering trade-offs, and thinking about opportunities, the better our decisions will be.

  • Share Local here, never heard anything about this until coming across it now. Would have love to put in our suggestions. Since moving here in Dec 2019, my main query has been to why such a dog friendly community doesn’t have it’s own fenced, off-leash dog park? Myself, and a multitude of neighbours have always agreed this space would be perfect for a dog park, simple, central, easily accessible for a lot of the elderly and families with young children. Could it be suggested that even 1/2 or 1/4 of the space be sectioned off for fencing for a dog park? With the big hotels here being dog friendly, a lot of tourists also bring their family pups and I think locals and visitors would all benefit from a dog park! on Facebook Share Local here, never heard anything about this until coming across it now. Thank you for your question and input.  While the survey is now closed, some respondents did suggest that a dog park was a desired use for some of the vacant land. The survey responses have been presented to Council for consideration. Please follow this project for updates and further community engagement opportunities.

Tourism Harrison has done a commendable job promoting our community and the result can be seen in the ever increasing amount of cars parked in the overflow parking area. Without proper consideration for these income generating tourists will cause congestion on village streets and deter the tourist from returning, thus creating a need to increase property taxes. The vacant lands at Hot Springs Road and Miami River Drive are rarely used to full capacity as overflow parking, with the exception of during the Harrison Festival and Sasquatch Days.  Even this year, seeing an overwhelming number of visitors to our community due to people seeking healthy outdoor recreation, there were only three weekends where the lot was used to capacity for parking.  People prefer to park as close to the waterfront as possible, and will seek out alternatives and use the empty lot as a last resort. Thank you for your participation.

Are non residents allowed to take part in this survey if so why the land belongs to the village and its residents only residents and businesses should have a say

Pug asked over 3 years ago

Anyone can take part in the survey. Non-residents may own businesses here, work here, or have other ideas based on community projects they have seen elsewhere. However, we will be able to sort responses based on the answer to the question that asks whether a respondent is a resident or not. All responses will be provided to Council to assist them in their decision making process. Thank you for your participation.
