Placemaking
What is Placemaking
The term placemaking has been attributed to a coined term created by Fred Kent, approximately 45 years ago. Mr. Kent is the founder of Projects for Public Spaces, a New York based non-profit organization. To access their website, if you would like any additional information, is https://www.pps.org/
Placemaking can be defined many ways but no matter how it has been defined, it is essentially a process that inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces. As such placemaking should be seen as a process that strengthens the connection of the Village’s residents and the place or places that we share. Placemaking is a collaborative process by which we can shape our public realm. More than just a simple urban design project, placemaking facilitates a process that pays particular attention to the physical, social, and cultural identities that help to define a space.
Placemaking is the process through which we work together to shape our public spaces. Rooted in community-based participation, placemaking involves the planning, design, management, and programming of shared use spaces. Placemaking brings together diverse people, including local government elected officials & staff, residents, and businesses to create innovative ideas and solutions.
Placemaking is a process.
