Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI)

The Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) supports small, tourism-based resort municipalities to build and diversify their tourism infrastructure, deliver exceptional visitor experiences and incorporate sustainable tourism practices and products.

The RMI program funds projects which result in the following key outcomes for resort-based communities:

  • Extend or diversify communities’ tourism seasons
  • Increase/return visitation
  • Improve the sustainability of the tourism sector
  • Enhance the visitor experience

Proposed RMI projects are to fall into one of three categories:

- Tourism Infrastructure, Amenities, or Capital

- Tourism-Related Programs, Services, or Events

- Program Administration

Resort Development Strategy

All RMI communities must complete a three-year Resort Development Strategy (Strategy). The Strategy identifies the long-term vision for the community and outlines the plans and projects the municipality will undertake to achieve the objectives of the program. Once the Strategy has been completed, the resort municipality signs an agreement with the Province and, subject to an annual appropriation, funding is provided to communities.

The Village's Resort Development Strategy (RDS) Committee consists of representatives from Tourism Harrison River Valley, Harrison-Agassiz Chamber of Commerce, Council, and Village Staff. This select committee has been working to determine tourism projects and events for the next RDS term.
