Lift Station #6 (LS6), located across the street from 432 Eagle Street, is a key part of the Village’s wastewater system, conveying flows from the surrounding catchment to Lift Station #3.

The Village’s 2025 Sanitary Sewer Master Plan identified the need to address aging infrastructure and operational challenges within the system, including performance limitations at LS6 during peak conditions.

To support long-term reliability, the station is moving ahead with targeted upgrades.

Following detailed design work, the project approach has been updated. Instead of installing a new wet well within the existing structure, upgrades will focus on improvements inside the current wet well.

Project updates include:

  • Installation of a new sump bottom to improve flow and reduce buildup
  • New lid and updated internal piping
  • Connection to the existing force main
  • Replacement of the control kiosk
  • Installation of new pumps

These upgrades are designed to improve overall performance, reduce maintenance frequency, and support more reliable operation during higher flow conditions.

The Village will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

What is a Lift Station?

A lift station is part of the wastewater system that moves sewage from lower elevations to higher elevations when gravity alone isn’t enough.

Wastewater from homes and businesses flows into an underground chamber (called a wet well). When it reaches a certain level, pumps automatically turn on and push the wastewater through pipes (called force mains) to the next part of the system.

Lift stations help ensure wastewater is safely and efficiently transported to treatment facilities, especially in areas with flat terrain or varying elevations.
